Our 100% online Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) is designed for ambitious professionals seeking to lead, manage, and drive meaningful changes in the public and civic sectors. Whether you are looking to advance in your current role or pivot into a public-service career, this highly flexible program is tailored for individuals pursuing career advancement in:

  • Public Sector Leadership: State, local, and regional government agencies.
  • Civic & Community Impact: Non-profit organizations, civic management, and leadership.
  • Urban & Economic Growth: City/urban planning and economic development.
  • Analysis & Strategy: Public policy research and budget analysis.
  • Corporate & Protective Services: Private sector governmental relations, human resource management, and protective services administration.

Prospective international applicants who wish to relocate to the U.S. to pursue their degree are encouraged to apply to the MA in Political Science. Once admitted, you may take online Public Policy and Administration courses as electives while maintaining visa compliance through on-campus coursework.

While many hold undergraduate degrees in Political Science, many others succeed with degrees in History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, English, Communications, Journalism, and General Studies. What Are the Degree Requirements?

To earn your Master of Arts degree, you will complete a minimum of 32 credit hours (most students graduate with 33 credit hours, as courses are typically 3 credits each).

  1. Core coursework (a minimum of 12 credit hours)
  • PLS 5054: Research Methods (3 credits)
  • Two Public Policy and Administration Proseminars (6 credits)
  • Traditional Graduation Track: Capstone Project (3 credits)
  • Alternative graduate options: Students can complete the degree requirement by opting in for the following tracks:
    • Complete 6 credit hours of internship (PLS 5990) in addition to all required elective courses. In total, 33 credit hours will be required.
    • Complete 36 credit hours (taking additional coursework) & submit a portfolio (a comprehensive file demonstrating your learning and achievement based on the department’s guidelines)
    • A capstone is not required for these alternative tracks.         
  1. Electives (a minimum of 20-27 Credit Hours)
  • Students can take elective courses offered at the graduate level, including traditional political science, public policy, public administration, international/comparative seminars, political theory, and public law.
  • Students can also sign up for additional coursework tailored to their career or research interests by participating in professional Internships, Study Abroad Programs, and independent Studies.
  • Students need to meet the minimum credit hours requirement for Political Science and Public Policy/Administration electives.
