Child Care Resource Specialist / Child Care Resource and Referral

Position Summary:
Eastern Illinois University currently has a vacancy for a full-time Infant Child Care Specialist (ITCCS). The ITCCS serves as a main point of contact for childcare providers interested in participating in ExceleRate Illinois Quality Recognition & Improvement Systems (QRIS). This position provides knowledge and expertise in developmentally appropriate care to children aged 0-3 and ability to assist providers to improve the quality of infant and toddler childcare. The ITCCS works as part of the Child Care Resource and Referral team by providing on-site consultation, technical assistance and training to assist providers in achieving or maintaining an ExceleRate Circle of Quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop working relationships with childcare practitioners to support them around improving the quality of services to infants and toddlers (birth-3 years)
• Provide consultation, technical assistance and training to providers who are involved with ExceleRate Illinois QRIS or have expressed an interest in QRIS and need support at different stages in the process.
• Offer resources and information to childcare providers in person, via phone &/or email.
• Assist in facilitating cohorts by providing training, technical assistance, reflective practice, and consultation.
• Work in partnership with providers and other specialists to jointly assess and identify a program's needs and concerns.
• Maintain documentation of the contract related activities through specified data recording system.
• Upon hire, Specialist receives detailed training on specific classroom and program assessment tools, in which a score threshold is required. Specialist will use this knowledge in assisting childcare providers with self-assessment and developing continuous quality improvement plans.
• Attend workdays, meetings, events, etc. required for the position, which may include an occasional evening or weekend.
• Shall become an Approved Trainer for Illinois Trainers Network within twelve (12) months of completing required Scale training.
• Excellent written and oral communication and tactful interpersonal skills required.
• Travel within a specific geographic area is required, with occasional statewide travel necessary. For this reason, valid driver's license and insurance are required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

• Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in:
  • Early Childhood Education/Child Development OR
  • One of the following related fields: Child Psychology/Behavioral Sciences, Family Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Elementary Education, Child Welfare, Family Services, Psychology, Sociology, Human Development, including a minimum of 18 hours in Early Childhood coursework.
• Three years of experience working with young children in a full-time, full-year childcare setting, with a minimum of two years in an infant/toddler childcare setting.
• Must have the Gateways ECE Credential 5 and Infant Toddler Credential 4.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of early childhood development theories and philosophies.
• General knowledge of childcare resources and programs.
• Ability to interact with the public.
• Ability to compile statistical information.

Work Hours:

Approximately 37.5 hours per week.

Salary/Pay Rate Range:

$18.24/hr. Department set rate.
