Students enrolled in the Biology major will discover the diversity of life and the interconnected relationships that sustain the natural world. With small class sizes and experiential learning, students will strengthen their analytical skills, gain real-world laboratory and field experience, and investigate how organisms and biological systems function. This major will provide students with the knowledge and training to pursue a variety of careers in Biology. The major is particularly valuable to students pursuing health-related professional programs in biosciences or graduate degrees in basic or applied biology post-graduation. In addition to the coursework, students can engage in experiential learning opportunities, such as research experiences with one of our faculty members.
Students interested in pursuing medical or veterinary professions will declare Biology as their major, but they have the option of following one of these pathways: Pre-Chiropractic medicine, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Optometry, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, to name a few. For more information about the pre-health pathways, visit /prehealth/index.php.
Students interested in ecology, conservation, or environmental science should major in Environmental Biology and choose one of the three available concentrations: Aquatics and Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, or Wildlife Biology. For more information about the Environmental Biology Major, visit /evb/. Students interested in teaching at the K-12 level should consider the Secondary Science Teacher Certification Program. For more information about the Teacher Certification Program, visit /biology/teacher_certification.php.
