Overview

The Computer Engineering major at Eastern Illinois University combines electrical engineering and computer science to prepare you to design and build the technology behind today’s digital world. From computer hardware and embedded systems to software and artificial intelligence, this program gives you a strong, well-rounded foundation.

This major is a great fit if you enjoy problem-solving, working with technology, and understanding how things work at both the hardware and software level. Students who are curious, detail-oriented, and interested in math, science, and programming tend to thrive in this field.

As a Computer Engineering student, you will take courses in programming, data structures, computer systems, electronics, circuit analysis, and digital design. You will also explore advanced topics like artificial intelligence, networking, and computer architecture. Hands-on learning is a key part of the experience, including lab work, collaborative projects, and a senior design project where you apply your skills to real-world challenges.

What sets Â鶹¹ú²ú apart is the opportunity to learn in a supportive, student-focused environment. Classes are taught by faculty, not graduate assistants, and smaller class sizes allow for meaningful interaction, mentorship, and research opportunities. You will have access to established labs and facilities while building connections across physics, engineering, and computer science.
