Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú is Eastern Illinois University’s emergency alert system.

In a campus emergency, quick access to reliable information matters. Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú helps keep our community safe by delivering timely text messages and emails directly to you. Below is a helpful FAQ to explain how the system works and how to make sure you are fully enrolled.

Where can I register for Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú?  

You will receive an enrollment notification sent to your Âé¶¹¹ú²ú email with a link to the . All active students, faculty, and staff automatically receive Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú messages through their Âé¶¹¹ú²ú email, but enrollment in the portal lets you add your cell number and optional alternate email addresses.

Enrollment emails are sent periodically to anyone who has not yet registered. Once enrolled, you can update your information at any time through the member portal.

What is Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú?  

Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú is a text-messaging system that sends emergency alerts to subscribers’ cell phones. Messages are brief and focus on potential threats affecting Âé¶¹¹ú²ú’s main campus.

Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú is one part of the university’s overall Emergency Notification System. Along with Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú, the campus may also use the following communication methods during an emergency:

    • Siren/public address system: A pulse tone will sound, followed by a spoken message if needed. The pulse tone signals all students, faculty, and staff to check their Âé¶¹¹ú²ú email or the university website for more information.
    • Campuswide email: Emergency details will be sent to all Âé¶¹¹ú²ú student and employee email accounts.
    • Phone trees: Key individuals will receive information and help share it within their departments when possible.
    • WÂé¶¹¹ú²ú Radio: Emergency information may be broadcast as available on 

Please Note: The campus siren/public address system is tested on the first Tuesday of each month. It sounds at 9:25 a.m. through Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú and again at 10 a.m. through Coles County Emergency Services.

Who can sign up for Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú text messages?  

All active Âé¶¹¹ú²ú students and employees are automatically enrolled through their campus email accounts. By registering in the member portal, you can add your current cell phone number and up to three additional mobile numbers to receive text alerts.

How soon will I begin receiving messages after registering?  

Text alerts will begin as soon as you enter your cell number in the member portal. Email alerts to Âé¶¹¹ú²ú accounts are sent automatically, whether or not you enroll.

Can I register family and friends?  

Yes. You can add up to three additional cell phone numbers for parents, spouses, or anyone you want to keep informed.

To add numbers, log in to the Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú portal, select My Profile (Edit), scroll to Contact Information, and enter the additional numbers under Text Msg #2, Text Msg #3, and Text Msg #4.

Are there any costs to register for Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú?  

Âé¶¹¹ú²ú does not charge for Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú. However, your cell carrier may charge for incoming text messages if you do not have a text-messaging plan. Check with your provider for details.

Why should I register?  

Âé¶¹¹ú²ú uses multiple tools to communicate during emergencies, including sirens, email, the university website, and campus media. Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú adds another fast, direct way to reach you. Registering ensures you receive critical information as quickly as possible.

 

Will Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú ever be used for non-emergency messages?  

NO. Alert Âé¶¹¹ú²ú is only used for emergencies that require immediate attention.

How do I unsubscribe from text messages?  

Yes. Reply 'STOP' to an emergency message to unsubscribe from future messages from AlertÂé¶¹¹ú²ú. You will continue to receive notifications to your campus email account.

 

If I unsubscribed from AlertÂé¶¹¹ú²ú messages, can I resubscribe?  

Yes. Send 'RESUME' to 89361 to resubscribe to AlertÂé¶¹¹ú²ú messages. Additionally, confirm your phone number is listed correctly in the . You will continue to receive notifications to your campus email account.

 

Will Eastern test the system?  

Yes. A test message is sent near the start of each fall and spring semester to make sure the system is functioning properly.

 

If I do not register, will I still receive emergency alerts through my Âé¶¹¹ú²ú email?  

Yes. All active students, faculty, and staff will still receive alerts through their campus email accounts even if they do not register a cell phone number.
